The Observatory

The OHM is an interdisciplinary scientific body bringing together a number of research teams studying the Rhône, its contemporary evolution and its management. It is interested in the socio-environmental issues raised by the operational implementation of sustainable river management. The knowledge generated feeds into public debate and management strategies for the Rhône.

The OHM Vallée du Rhône is part of the Interdisciplinary Research Facility on Human-Milieu Interactions (DRIIHM), a Laboratory of Excellence (LabEx) that supports the study of highly anthropised socio-ecosystems. It was set up in 2011 by the CNRS’s Institut Écologie et Environnement (InEE). It is the heir to a long and rich history of research on the river.

The research activities of the OHM Vallée du Rhône are carried out in conjunction with the river’s stakeholders (government departments, local authorities, public establishments, industrialists, associations, etc.).

The Rhône-Saône Plan partners support the coordination and management of the OHM Vallée du Rhône by the Graie. They are also financial partners of the Rhône Sediment Observatory and the RhônEco program.
